Nine Thai startups invited to hold "THAI DEEPTECH SHOWCASE 2026" ~ Creating a Japan-Thailand Co-creation Platform in Tokyo with VISUP and NIA ~

Leave-x Inc. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Group CEO & Representative Director: Yukihiro Maru) co-hosted the "THAI DEEPTECH SHOWCASE 2026" with the National Innovation Agency, a government organization in Thailand, and VISUP Co., Ltd., a deep tech specialized accelerator, held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Tokyo Innovation Base (TiB).

At this event, nine Thai deep tech startups visited Japan with the support of the National Innovation Agency (NIA) of Thailand, and conducted pitch and poster presentations for Japanese companies. This provided an opportunity to create a venue for meetings leading to demonstration experiments, joint development, and business collaboration in a wide range of fields such as food, healthcare, materials, and sustainability, thereby materializing deep tech co-creation between Japan and Thailand.

Background of this event

It is becoming difficult for Japanese companies to complete new business creation and R&D theme exploration solely within Japan, and the need for collaboration with overseas startups, particularly in Southeast Asia, is increasing. Among these, Thailand is one region where startups responsible for commercializing deep tech businesses are continuously emerging, supported by innovation initiatives from government agencies and universities/research institutions.

to link researchers, startups, and companies in various Southeast Asian countries. In Japan, too, we have actively worked to create new businesses by helping local companies incorporate innovative technologies from overseas ventures.Inbound globalizationWe have been promoting... This time, we held this event in collaboration with VISUP and NIA, who specialize in supporting the deep tech field in Thailand, as a venue for Japanese companies to have direct contact with technology seeds originating in Thailand and to begin dialogues for demonstration and joint development.

Forming a platform for Japan-Thailand deep tech co-creation

On the day, following the opening by the BOI (The Board of Investment of Thailand), NIA, VISUP, and Realnet, a panel discussion was held on the theme of "Thailand – Japan Co-creation as a Strategic Pathway for Deep Tech Commercialization." Perspectives necessary for deep tech commercialization and how governments, corporations, and startups should collaborate were discussed by both Thailand and Japan.

In the subsequent pitching sessions, the following nine companies presented their technologies and businesses, followed by networking and matching sessions where concrete discussions were held with Japanese companies.

Overview of startups visiting Japan

The nine visiting companies presented technologies directly addressing social issues, including smart labels that visualize temperature deviations, food safety platforms utilizing enzyme technology, plant-derived health ingredients, sustainable egg alternatives, naturally derived coatings, nanocoatings for solar panels, recycling of waste solar panels, and eco-friendly materials derived from food waste.

This provided Japanese companies with opportunities not just to be introduced to overseas startups, but also to explore concrete technology themes for pilot projects and joint development.

Significance of this initiative

The distinguishing feature of this event is the establishment of a platform in Tokyo to foster deep tech business creation between Japan and Thailand, by connecting VISUP (a Thai accelerator), NIA (a Thai government agency), startups visiting Japan, and Japanese companies.

Moreover, by integrating presentations, pitches, exhibitions, and networking, we created initial touchpoints for moving beyond a one-off event to pilot testing, joint development, and business partnerships. For the societal implementation of deep tech, connecting with corporations, support organizations, and overseas ecosystems is essential, in addition to understanding the technology. This event is an initiative that serves as the starting point for such connections.

Future development

Based on the connections made this time, Leave-a-Nest will proceed with specific individual meetings and joint demonstrations between Japanese companies and Thai startups. Additionally,From Thursday, July 16, 2026, to Saturday, July 18, 2026, the "Deep Tech Tour in Thailand" program will visit Thailand's local deep tech ecosystem.and will offer opportunities for deeper business collaboration through "TECH PLANTER DEMO DAY in Thailand."

Life Sciences (Master's). While pursuing my master's degree where I researched microalgae, I participated in an internship at the early stages of Leave a Nest, aiming to convey the appeal of living organisms, which possess both diversity and universality, to children. After completing my degree, I gained experience creating science teaching materials for junior high and high school students at Z-Khai Co., Ltd. before rejoining Leave a Nest. Through grants for junior and senior high school researchers and research coaching by young researchers, I support school education. In 2019, I transitioned to human resource development, implementing career support for doctoral students in collaboration with universities nationwide. Triggered by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on January 1, 2024, I launched the Leave a Nest Resilience Project, engaging in practical efforts towards building resilient communities through the social implementation of deep tech. From 2025, I will be Director of the Strategic Development Division and the Center for National Policy Research.
