On July 18, 2026, at the "20th Anniversary Celebration and Alumni Homecoming Networking Event" held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute of Biotechnology at National Taiwan University, our Representative Director and CSO, Shuichiro Takahashi, delivered a keynote speech.
On April 2026, Leave-a-Nest and the Research Center of Biotechnology at National Taiwan University,Memorandum of Understanding on mutual cooperation aimed at strengthening the science and technology ecosystem and fostering entrepreneurs between Japan and TaiwanThis presentation served as an opportunity to further deepen collaboration following the MOU signing, advancing discussions on researcher and student exchange, joint research, and the societal implementation of research outcomes.
Takahashi explained the concept of "Science Bridge Communication," which bridges the gaps in knowledge, experience, and problem awareness between researchers and society, by introducing his experience as a researcher and the background of establishing Leave a Nest under the theme "Beyond Collaboration: Symbiosis in Knowledge Manufacturing."
Furthermore, we introduced initiatives that leave has built, such as fostering next-generation researchers, providing research funding for young researchers, and supporting the commercialization of university-generated technology. Based on this, we stated that to solve complex societal challenges, it is necessary to have "knowledge manufacturing," which connects the knowledge held by students, researchers, companies, startups, government agencies, and manufacturing sites, rather than relying on a single technology or organization, thereby creating new value.
Also, April 2026Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference Taiwan 2026At this event, we picked up on the concept of "Symbiosis" presented by Dr. Chi-Der Liu, Director of the Graduate Institute of Biotechnology at National Taiwan University, and positioned it as a framework for fostering symbiotic relationships across fields, industries, and borders in the knowledge manufacturing industry.
At the end of his lecture, Takahashi expressed his intention to build a new research and business creation ecosystem based on science and technology, by bringing together the strengths of both Japan and Taiwan.
Following the lecture, the Q&A session saw a series of specific questions about the success factors for tech startups, connecting the technologies held by research labs to Japan, and the practical application of research outcomes, entrepreneurship, and Japan-Taiwan collaboration. This led to dialogues that could foster future joint research and business partnerships.
LPS and the Institute of Biotechnology at National Taiwan University will continue discussions based on the MOU regarding researcher and student exchange between Japan and Taiwan, joint research, and entrepreneur development.
We will also consider creating opportunities for Taiwanese researchers and students to take the first step in delivering their research findings to society, and supporting collaboration with Japanese companies and research institutions.
