Behind this trend are more strategic and diverse objectives, such as the formation of start-up ecosystems and overseas deployment of local problem-solving know-how, in addition to the traditional strengthening of local industries. In this session, we will discuss why local governments have embarked on new overseas strategies, and the results and challenges that have emerged, using practical examples from Sendai City and other cities as a starting point. The session will then discuss how local governments can engage with the world and what kind of value they can create for the region in the future, in addition to encouraging local companies and startups to take on new challenges.
